Gentamicin Sulphate


Product characteristics

Colorless to light yellow or yellowish green clear liquid.


Drug interaction

Combining use of Gentamicin Sulphate with tetracycline and erythromycin may result in antagonism.

Combining use with cephalosporin, dextranum, strong diuretic drugs (such as furosemide), erythromycin may increase the ototoxicity of the product.

Muscle relaxants(such as succinylcholine chloride) or other drugs with this effect may increase the neuromuscular blockade effect of the product.


Indications

Aminoglycoside antibiotics, it is used for the treatment of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial infections.


Administration and dosage

Intramuscular injection, 0.1-0.2ml per kg body weight per dose in livestock, and 0.15-0.25ml in dogs and cats, two times a day, use for 2-3 consecutive days.


Adverse drug reaction

Ototoxicity. It often causes vestibular damage, which can be aggravated with the accumulation of continuous drug administration, also may cause dose-dependent.

Occasional allergic reactions. Cats are more sensitive, it may cause nausea, emesis, salivation and ataxia at normal dose.

High dose can cause neuromuscular conduction block. Accidental death often occurs when dogs and cats are treated with penicillin after general anesthesia during surgery.

It may cause reversible nephrotoxicity.


Warnings and precautions

Gentamycin can be used in the treatment of severe infections with β- lactamide antibiotics, but there is incompatibility in vitro mixing.

The product has a synergistic effect on streptococcus when combined use with penicillin.

The product has an effect of respiratory inhibition, do not injection intravenously.

The combination with tetracycline and erythromycin may lead to antagonism.

Combing with cephalosporin may enhance renal toxicity.
